Announced By Edinburgh Airport March 16th 2018

Edinburgh Airport has just announced, for the very first time, direct flights between Beijing and Edinburgh.

From June 2018, China's Hainan Airlines will run direct return flights twice a week with two further return flights between the two cities to go via Dublin each week. This is a big step forward for direct Scottish / Chinese business and cultural relations.

Edinburgh is second only to London as the most popular UK destination for Chinese tourists with large year on year % growth for visitors to both the capital and the rest of the country. Tourism is one of Scotland's largest economic drivers and with direct access, this announcement delivers true potential for future expansion.

The flights also open the gateway for improving and growing business connections between the two countries. China is already a major importer of certain Scottish goods and services with food and drink in particular leading the way.

With our focus on marketing Scotland to China, here at East West, we are firmly encouraged by this new development. These flights help open eyes, ears and minds to the true potential between Scotland and China for business and cultural progress into the years ahead.
