Scotland has seen a large increase in visitors from China ( up 300% since 2014 ) and plans are underway to increase Chinese tourism numbers across the Scottish capital as well.
An emerging Chinese payment gateway provider consulted our team with a view to the creation of a local travel guide app for China-hosted digital communications app WeChat. Called Explore the app will allow Chinese visitors to find out all the local information they need in their native language covering hotels, experiences, shops, food, drink, entertainment and much more.
The big attraction is that they use a service they’re familiar with – WeChat, the most popular social / digital communications service in China. The app helps them travel around a location they have never previously visited and will first cover Edinburgh and then widen out to feature all of Scotland, eventually expanding out to the UK.
Our role was to conduct the relevant research into the Chinese and Edinburgh tourism market, while simultaneously beta-building an informative test version for Chinese people visiting the Scottish capital. See screen samples below.
